Sailing on Full Circle a Sunfast 3200 R2 as part of the JOG season from Cowes to Poole and back. Absolutely stunning weather and quite the change from the morning. Transitioned into a solid 15kts of wind being swept out of the solent.
We were very happy with 3rd in the double handed class due to how close everyone finished, it was nearly much worse with a little discussion about whether we had to round the penultimate mark...
The way back was much more lively with 20+knots at time, thankfully a decision to higher out the start (although not popular with fellow sailors) meant we could fly the kite all the way to the mark. Gybing down the Solent was quite the hair raising bit as we were so close to catching fellow competitors with slightly different sail configurations.

Thanks to the amazing generosity of a boat owner this year is going to be super exiting! Pending scrutinising, I've entered the SOLO Fastnet as part of SORC's offshore series! As you would have seen in an earlier post (HERE) the mindmap and meeting that I had with someone very knowledgable about sponsorship has reminded me that I should do a better job of sharing the journey. As such below is a quick video about the first training session putting her through her paces!
"With the support of an amazing owner and a great group of solo sailors I am on the journey towards racing a Django 27 single handed following the route of the famous Fastnet Race. This is the first real outing putting her through the paces in manoeuvres and getting acquainted to the smaller spaces aboard!
There's still plenty to do though to prepare myself and the boat for the season... Using the race as a platform, I hope to increase the awareness amonst young students about the world of marine engineering to help inspire the next generation."

As per forecast we all started in no wind! Even the 120ft Spindrift struggled to get off the line! Thankfully we managed to get the boat moving enough to exit the Solent ahead of Figaros, 60s and Class 40s! Well… that was till it all came crashing down.
With the RYS regatta dust barely settled it was back onto the water for some proper sailing! It was an early start for Will and I post North party but we managed to get her nice and prep’d for departing at 0900. After a quick look at the forecast before departing it looked to be bouncy at the start with some nice downwind sailing coming in later. Little did we know what was to happen…
